| Introduction to Pilates Mat |
This class will emphasize education on the anatomy of the spine, postural alignment, use of proper body mechanics and injury prevention. Pilates stabilization exercises will be explained and performed in class and are to be practiced daily at home. Each week will be a progression of the exercises from the previous week. The final week is complete beginner level mat class based on the exercises learned.
Modifications to the exercises will be provided to those students with osteoporosis, neck and low back pain, prenatal, or other needs. |
| Intermediate Pilates Mat Class with Small Apparatus |
This class emphasizes movement and flow using traditional and contemporary Pilates mat exercises for the entire session. Students at this level should have an understanding and exposure to the fundamental concepts and are able to apply this to more progressive movements. Small apparatus will also be provided to introduce a greater isolation, challenge, creativity to each class. |
| Prenatal Pilates Mat Class |
Class is designed to allow the expectant mother to participate in a Pilates group mat class. Exercises will address postural correction, balance, flexibility, and abdominal and pelvic floor strengthening, consistent with the anatomical and physiological needs of pregnancy. ACOG (American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology) guidelines will be followed to ensure optimal safety. Please bring a pillow or blanket for additional support. Permission to exercise from your doctor is required.
All stages of pregnancy are welcome!
Benefits of exercise during pregnancy include alleviation of backache, fatigue, nausea, cramping. Assists in an easier delivery and a quicker recovery. |
| Postpartum Pilates “Mommy and Me” Mat Class |
Class is designed to allow the new mother to be able to exercise with her newborn. This is a great way to continue developing a relationship with your baby, while participating in Pilates-based mat exercises. You have the option of bringing your newborn to class. The exercises emphasize restoring the core during recovery by isolating the pelvic floor and deep abdominal musculature. Proper body mechanics for feeding, lifting and posture will be addressed since these place additional stress on a deconditioned body. ACOG (American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology) guidelines will be followed to ensure optimal safety while performing all exercises. Permission to participate in this exercise program is required from your doctor. |
